Meet Simba! He’s an 8 year old, 74-lb., neutered chocolate Lab who never really had a chance to know what the Good Life is all about. Now that he’s been rescued and is in a wonderful foster home, this sweet and loving boy is really blossoming! Before reaching CILRA, he suffered from untreated flea allergies which have now been treated successfully – he’s much more comfortable and his coat has grown back beautifully. This Lab’s perfect Forever Family would have the chance for tons of daily walks (which he Adores because he’s very active and loves sniffing to his heart’s content), and to be given loads of love & attention. Speaking of attention, Simba wants it all! While he does enjoy playing with other dogs outside the home, he prefers to not share attention with another dog inside. Simba is very polite and gentle, especially when taking treats. He will gently put his paw on his foster Mom’s arm when he wants to go outside. He brings his food dish to her when he is hungry. He has learned to add kisses to expedite requests: for example: If he wants to go for a walk but is told he needs to wait a little bit, he will ask again, and give her kisses. Simba is super smart, and a very quick learner. He is very gentle, and has the manners of a prince. He is very playful and always ready for a game of Catch/Fetch. He doesn’t appear to be prey-driven: On separate occasions he has watched a squirrel, rabbit, duck, cat, and chicken pass in front of him and didn’t think twice about it. He loves to look out the window and watch the birds and squirrels. He will even fall asleep while doing that, with his head on the window sill. He loves riding in the car, and also has perfect house manners; he doesn’t need to be crated, and asks for permission before getting onto furniture. Who could ask for anything more? He’s being fostered in Monticello, IL.

Here is a recent update from Simba’s Foster Mom:

“Simba loves children. He has made friends with an 8 and 10 yr. old in the neighborhood. He loves to see them off to school and greet them in the afternoon. He acts a lot younger than an 8 year old Lab. He loves to run, take walks, play tug-a-war, and fetch. Sometimes I think he would play fetch all day long if he could (with time out for sniffs). He still loves to sniff. He gets the biggest smile on his face when he runs free. He’s very cute when he has a big smile on his face.”
