Meet Duke, a charming and spirited black Lab in search of his forever home. At 1-2 years old and weighing 70 lbs., his sleek black coat, bright eyes, and sweet disposition are sure to capture your heart. What will also capture your heart is how well this dear boy has thrived despite past horrors. He recently had facial surgery for a suspected cyst, which was discovered to be a bullet, lodged between his eyes. Thankfully he’s known only love and kindness since being rescued, and he is Always happy! Duke has been neutered and is up-to-date on vaccinations. He’s sweet, loyal, loving, and intelligent. He is very athletic, and will thrive in an environment with an active family. He’s been around all kinds of people and children ages 5-12, and did wonderfully with each of them. Duke is somewhat selective about his canine companions, and tends to prefer the company of female dogs (cats are unknown).
He’s done very well being gated in a room when his family leaves. He loves car rides and going for walks, and would benefit from a bit of obedience training. He’s a fast learner, and is working on his leash skills so he won’t pull when he sees another dog. His foster Mom says Duke is also getting better at going to his “place” and wait quietly when company arrives. He’s an active Lab, but also loves to relax & lounge in the sun. Duke is not a fan of being in a crate, but doesn’t really need one, because he has lovely house manners. He’s an active guy; a traditional fenced yard will be helpful so he can get plenty of exercise off-leash. Duke is full of promise and has so much love to give the right family! He’s being fostered in the west suburbs of Chicago.
