Colby

Dear CILRA and Judy K. – We wanted you to know that our black Lab, Colby (Buddy – CILRA tag #000683) was put to rest on Thursday, December 29, 2016.  Colby had been fighting cancer for about a year and a half.  He hid his pain well and for a long time.  Colby was a happy boy until the very end.  He continued to get many, many treats including his favorite French fries on his last day.
Please know that Colby was more than a friend to our whole family – aunts, uncles, cousins loved him – grandmas and grandpas loved him – neighbors knew Colby’s name before they knew ours.  Everybody loved Colby, and Colby loved everybody.
Colby and Bill were inseparable.  They were best friends since the day we picked Colby up at Judy’s north of Indianapolis (Colby rode home quietly in the back of the Trailblazer staring out of the window – we just looked at each other and smiled – Colby was a beautiful boy!).
He was always by our side, went on many car rides, long walks in the neighborhood and local parks, played in the backyard, had several favorite areas to rest in the shade on a hot summer day, and loved when his canine friends would come for a visit.  Colby was “the best dog!”
He did not want for toys or treats or love.  We provided him with the best life we could.  And Colby provided us with his unconditional love, a tail that wagged non-stop (we think it wagged in his sleep too), and many, many wonderful memories that will never be forgotten.
It is very difficult to say “goodbye,” but we wanted you to know how much we loved Colby and how much we are going to miss him.  He was a great best friend and family member.  Our lives will not be the same without Colby around to make us smile.  Colby will be missed.
Thank you, CILRA, for what you do.  Sometimes we think Colby rescued us.  All our best.  — Bill and Kimberly B.
