Millie is a 7 year old chocolate Lab who came to CILRA in June. She was extremely overweight, weighing 102 lbs. Her owners had surrendered her because she “wasn’t fun anymore”. Millie’s previous owners had never taken her to a vet, but if they had, they would have discovered that she was suffering from Cushing’s Disease and thus the weight gain. Once diagnosed, Cushing’s disease is a very treatable ailment. Under the care of a CILRA-approved veterinarian, Millie began her Cushing’s treatment and has lost a total of 20 lbs. She is now much more mobile and continues to improve. She is the sweetest and most gentle girl you would ever want to meet. She is fine with children and other dogs. She is content to be by your side and would be a great companion dog. Millie is house trained and does not need to be crated. Millie does also suffer from arthritis in her hind legs and has some muscle atrophy due to the Cushing’s. Millie occasionally needs help getting up from a lying down position due to lack of strength in her hind legs. A home with carpet or area rugs would be best for Millie, as smooth surfaces make it difficult for her to get up. Millie is fostered in the NW suburbs of Illinois.
