This Lab is currently in a foster home, which is CILRA’s standard practice and allows us to learn more about the Lab before they are officially ready for adoption. It gives us time to evaluate the Lab’s personality, bring them up-to-date on vaccinations, and have them spayed/neutered if needed. If you are interested in this Lab, please keep checking the website for status updates or send an email of interest to adoptionteam@cilra.org.
Don’t let these sad puppy dog eyes fool you, Brownie is a very happy, energetic, and loving 6 year-old chocolate Lab weighing 65 lbs. She gets along well with other dogs; cats are an unknown. Brownie loves a game of fetch, cuddling, and playing with her stuffed toys and bones. She is very smart and treat-motivated, and picks up training quickly. This clever girl already knows Sit, Down, Stay, Touch and Look At Me. She walks well on a leash with a harness and loves to greet the people and dogs she meets. She is more of an alpha dog and gets along with most other dogs. Brownie has not yet been observed around children, but knowing her sweet and loving nature, she would probably be fine as long as they were not toddlers who could easily be knocked over by her high energy. She does well in a crate overnight, and hasn’t needed crating when left alone during the day with her foster brother. Brownie will need a traditionally-fenced yard. This beautiful girl is being fostered in a western suburb of Chicago.

Adopting a Lab can be a wonderful experience. Your new dog will need lots of love, adequate exercise and attention. Keep in mind that dog ownership may include additional costs for training, grooming, and health care beyond annual vaccines and monthly preventatives. It’s a lifetime commitment!
