Bambi is a 5 year old breeder Lab. She has been at her foster home for 3 months. Initially, she had to have a radical mastectomy to remove tumors that could have been cancerous. She recovered wonderfully and is not on any medication. Bambi shows some signs of having been abused and needs a forever family who understands her special needs. Her family should be calm, gentle, and patient in order to build trust. Bambi does not know how to be a “dog” and often looks to the foster family’s other dog to learn. Bambi is skittish, but submissive. She shows no signs of aggression and warmed up to the other dog within the first week. Bambi loves to be outside and does well on a leash. She needs a traditionally fenced yard, and to be crated when she’s alone. She would do well with someone who is retired or works from home. She has great house manners when her people are home with her. She loves for people to sit next to her and pet her. Bambi loves to fetch a ball and “sometimes” brings it back. She needs to learn basic obedience commands (such as Come), but she’s not food/treat motivated, so that method of training could be slow. She has a very sweet, gentle demeanor, and is slowly learning what it’s like to be loved by people. She loves her dog bed and sleeps well at night on it (uncrated). She’s being fostered in Fishers, IN.
