I’m Axel, a 2 year old black Lab mix who has had several lucky breaks in the past five months. The first break was the kind lady who drove me up north from the crowded scary shelter where I was on The Short List (you know). The second break was when CILRA successfully treated me for heartworms. My great foster home, with two canine companions, was my third lucky break. My fourth lucky break was the extraordinary Vet team at Southwest Animal Clinic who took care of me after I ate two leather gloves (it happens). I’ve had more lucky breaks, but there’s not enough room to go into them here. The Vet estimates my age at two years, but with my new health and vigor, I feel younger than this. I love going on long walks, am learning to play ball, and need a traditional tall fence because I can leap. Because of my energy & leaping abilities, small children are not a good fit. I would feel comfortable in a home with another dog, and have ignored the cats I saw at the Vet. I love long car rides. I would be happiest with someone who is home most of the time. I love resting at my foster human’s feet while they sit at a desk. I also go into my crate while my people eat meals, but I sleep next to them in my comfy dog bed at night. I need someone who can commit to being my next lucky break, a forever home. I’m fostered on the southwest side of Chicago.
